The problem is that l like to drink sociallyon the weekends when I am out with my friends. l have already drank twice on Wellbutrin. One night l had one shot and 3 mixed drinks. The other night l had 2 mixed drinks. l did not have any problems. However, l read that your not supposed to drink on Wellbutrin XL. l was wondering if l could just not take the meds on the weekend and be safe or will it still have the potential to hurt me? Also what exactly will it do? Thanks
Thanks for you advice. Also l think it is very rude to call people idoits. And as for as drinking making me more depressed. That is to true! l never feel depressed when l drink. Thanks again.

WWD is right alcohol is classified as a mental depressant (whether it affects u that way or not is debatable). That is the main reason why u should not drink while on anti-depressants. They counteract each other. As for not taking ur medication while u drink is not advisable for two reasons. first of all, It does not matter as far as mixing the two. Wellbutrin XL (extra long) has a very long half life, which means that it will be in ur system for several days after taking the last dose. Secondly while the drug is still in ur system, if u chronically continue to skip doses u can decrease the steady state level in ur body. It can decrease the levels to below the level needed for therapeutic effect eventually leading to return of ur symptoms or actually causing withdrawal symptoms depending on how low they get.

You should not drink hardly any whether you're taking Wellbutrin or not. You will feel better for a few hours, but overall it will worsen your depression. A glass of beer or wine with dinner you can OK with your doctor, but it would be foolish to tempt fate past that.

Its very dangerous, it can lead to mental problems worse than depressions as alchohol affects the brain and ur medicine is reparing it.

You should never stop taking the drug, unless your doctor tells you to. I was on Wellbutrin XL for a very long time, and if I missed a dosage, it made me very sick. Plus the drug stays in your system for quite a while, so alcohol would still affect it even though you are not taking it.

But I do not recommend it. I think it will hurt you more in the long run.

I am on the same medication. Wellbutrin is not only for depression, it also is prescribed for people who want to quick smoking, and it also helps to lose weight.
I went off of it a couple of times, and never had any side effects. But if your suffering from depression, why would you want to drink? It only makes you more depressed!
